How someone can whistle better than most people playing an instrument is beyond me. As show time approached closer and closer, you could see a nervous Andrew Bird waiting back stage. I read earlier that day about how different shows are for Bird when he plays in Chicago, his home town, and it definitely seemed like the pressure of the show was getting to him. However as he walked on stage, with giant, decorative gramophones spinning behind him, Bird went from meek to confident; a total transformation which led him to play an amazing set.

Everything about Bird is a little quirky; His appearance, his mannerisms, the fact that whistling is one of his most defining features. Luckily for Bird, his fans are just as quirky as he is, and we ate up every bit of his performance; classical violin, whistling, “Snacks” and all. (Get it; he played that song, a crowd favorite.)

This was my first Andrew Bird show, and I was blown away. He really delivered and I can’t wait to catch him again.
