  1. I went to the Death Cab show in June with Rogue Wave as the opener at Millenium Park. I had never heard of Rogue Wave except I recognized “Lake Michigan” when they played it live. Now, I love them. I am just pissed that I didn’t catch them at Lolla. Can anyone tell me how they were?

  2. Not that I didn’t know that they were sweet beforehand, but one of the most eye-opening openers I’ve ever seen was George Clinton and Funkadelic opening up for Dave Matthews in Tinley Park

  3. One band that I realized I loved after seeing them live is GooGoo Dolls. I saw them open for Counting Crows 2 years ago in Tinley Park, I had never realized how much I liked them until I saw them live!

  4. Well, this is WAY out of date, but I saw Steely Dan open for The Kinks on Halloween 1971 (I think it was) Nuff said?

  5. I saw Josh Rouse (not well known but awesome) at The Park West in ‘06. A band called “Strays Don’t Sleep” opened. They killed. Broke up soon after but introduced me to lead singer and writer Matthew Ryan. Have seen Matthew three times since and can’t recommend him enough.

  8. The All Mighty Senators opened for The Pretenders. I had never heard of them, but they were the most amazing opening band I’ve ever seen. From the visual, the lead singer center stage on the drums, to the musical–the most pounding rendition of Gloria we’ve ever heard. Truly unique in sound and performance. All other opening acts we’ve seen have been held up to them.

We bought their CD right from the band members manning the table and they all signed it. Very cool group of guys.

  9. A few years ago I went to see Diana Krall. I had no knowledge about the opening act. I was just hoping they would not play too long! The band, Ollabelle, was amazing! They are now one of my all time favorite bands and I see them every time they come to Chicago.
Going into the way back machine, I remember going to see Jethro Tull and had never heard of the opening act-UK. As it turned out, Jethro Tull was ok, but UK really rocked. The band consisted of Eddie Jobson, John Wetton, and Terry Bozio. They were extremely loud and had a great light show!
